Mumbai: Well-known character actress Surekha Sikri, who charmed the audience with her strong acting, wanted to become a journalist. Born on 19 April 1945, Surekha Sikri’s childhood was spent in Almorha and Nainital. Her father was in the Air Force And her mother was a teacher. Surekha Sikri wanted to become a journalist and writer before joining films.

Surekha joined the National School of Drama (NSD) after completing her studies at Aligarh Muslim University. After completing her studies at NSD, she started working with an alumni theater company on campus for a few days. Later becoming an actress. She came to Mumbai with her dream.

Surekha Sikri started her film career in the year 1978 with the film Kissa Kursi. Surekha acted in more than 30 films in her career, but she got the most popularity from the TV serial ‘Balika Vadhu’. In this serial, she was recognized from house to house in the role of ‘Dadi Sa’.


Surekha Sikri was awarded the National Award for Best Supporting Actress thrice in her cine career. She was awarded the National Award for Best Supporting Actress in the year 1988 for the film ‘Tamas’, ‘Mammo’ in the year 1995 and Badhaai Ho in the year 2018. was done.

She was also honored by the Sangeet Natak Akademi in 1989 for her tremendous contribution to Hindi theatre. Surekha was married to Hemant Rege, with whom they had a son named Rahul Sikri. Rahul lives in Mumbai and is an artist.
