Situation clear regarding Mocha cyclone, heavy rain alert on Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Kolkata: Mocha storm is forming due to the formation of a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal. This storm is moving forward taking a fierce form. The Meteorological Department says that this week this storm will hit the coast of West Bengal and Odisha. The Meteorological Department has also issued an alert for heavy rains in West Bengal, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh for the next three days. The India Meteorological Department on Monday warned that the cyclone Mocha forming over the Bay of Bengal could turn into a very severe storm by Friday.

During this, the wind speed can reach up to 130 kilometers per hour. Along with this, the department also said that the details of its landfall can be found by Tuesday. The Meteorological Bureau said that on Monday, a low-pressure area formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining the south Andaman Sea. It is likely to intensify into a depression on 9 May and into Cyclone Mocha on 10 May. The storm is expected to move towards Bangladesh and Myanmar coasts around May 12.

Warning issued for tourists on Andaman and Nicobar Islands
Small sea vessels and fishermen have been warned not to venture out from Tuesday. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning to the authorities regarding tourism and shipping near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from May 8 to 12. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday assured the people that necessary precautionary measures have been taken and there is no need to panic. Because cyclone Mocha cannot knock in the eastern state.

CM Mamata Banerjee said, “There is nothing to panic about Cyclone Mocha. It may not make landfall in West Bengal. But the coastal areas of the state have been asked to be vigilant. As a precaution, an alert has been issued in Sunderbans and Digha on May 10 and 11. The Alipore Meteorological Department has said that the depression over the Bay of Bengal will not have much effect on the state.

Warning issued for fishermen
He asked fishermen, ships, trawlers, and small boats not to venture into the southeast Bay of Bengal and urged people in the area to return to the coast. IMD director Mohapatra said, “The cyclonic storm will initially move north-northwestwards towards the central Bay of Bengal till May 11 and then recurve north-northeastwards towards Bangladesh-Myanmar coast.” Mohapatra said that under the influence of the weather system, Andaman and Nicobar Islands are likely to receive very heavy rainfall on Tuesday.
