New Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has named Shreyas Iyer as their captain. Announcing this on Wednesday, KKR CEO and MD Venky Mysore said, “We are glad that we were able to buy Shreyas in the IPL auction. He has got the opportunity to lead the KKR team. He has influenced everyone. We are confident that he will do exceptionally well as captain and batsman for KKR.
Team head coach Brendon McCullum said, “I am very excited to see one of India’s brightest future captains, Shreyas Iyer, take over the reins of KKR. I have thoroughly enjoyed Shreyas’s game and his captaincy skills from afar and now look forward to working closely with him to take forward the kind of success and sport we want from KKR.”
Accepting the captaincy of KKR, Shreyas Iyer said, “I am extremely honored to have the opportunity to lead a team of repute like KKR. IPL as a tournament brings together the best players from different countries and cultures and I look forward to leading this great group of talented individuals.”
