Islamabad: In the National Assembly of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif has been elected as the new Prime Minister of the country. Shahbaz has been elected unopposed to the post of PM. He will take oath tonight at 8.30 (Indian time). Sharif will be the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Let us inform you that all the MPs of Imran Khan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party had boycotted this election and walked out of the National Assembly.
After being elected the Prime Minister, Shahbaz Sharif addressed the Parliament. He said, “Today the Almighty has saved 22 crore people of Pakistan and the country. This is the first time that the vote of no confidence has been successfully passed. The people of this country will celebrate this day.”
Significantly, Imran Khan was removed from the post of Prime Minister of the country after losing the no-confidence motion late on Saturday-Sunday. The opposition party managed to secure 174 votes in the 342-member National Assembly in support of the no-confidence motion.
It is noteworthy that Pakistan has been battling political instability since its formation in 1947 with several regime changes and military coups. No prime minister has completed a full five-year term so far.
