New Delhi: The investigation into the devastating car explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station has uncovered critical evidence through CCTV footage analysis. Delhi Police Special Cell confirmed that the white Hyundai i20 involved in the blast was parked near the historic Sunheri Masjid for approximately three hours before the deadly explosion.

According to the Delhi Police investigation, the suspect vehicle entered the parking lot at 3:19 pm on November 10, 2025, and remained stationary until 6:48 pm. Just four minutes after leaving the parking area, at precisely 6:52 pm, the car exploded at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station. The powerful blast killed eight people instantly and left more than 20 others injured, with several vehicles in the vicinity catching fire from the intense explosion.

Delhi Police are currently examining over 100 CCTV clips, including footage from nearby toll plazas, to track the vehicle’s complete movement and trace its route through Daryaganj and surrounding areas.

Terror Attack Confirmed: Fidayeen-Style Operation

Top intelligence sources have confirmed that the Red Fort blast was a deliberate terror attack bearing the signature of a fidayeen-style suicide operation. Preliminary intelligence reports reveal that the Hyundai i20 was deliberately packed with explosives before being driven into the crowded area near the historic Red Fort monument.

The explosion was so intense that it shattered windows of nearby buildings including the Red Fort Metro Station, knocked out street lights in the area, and sent flames leaping several feet into the air. Six cars and three auto-rickshaws were engulfed in the resulting fire, creating scenes of chaos in one of Delhi’s most densely populated areas.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed the incident and stated that multiple probe agencies including the National Investigation Agency (NIA), National Security Guard (NSG), and Delhi Police Special Cell are conducting a thorough investigation. Delhi Police have registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) sections 16 and 18, along with sections 3 and 4 of the Explosive Substances Act.

Ownership Trail Links Car to Pulwama Resident

The investigation has revealed a complex ownership trail of the blast vehicle that points directly to terror networks in Jammu and Kashmir. The Hyundai i20 bearing registration number HR26 CE 7674 was originally registered at the Gurugram North RTO in Haryana in the name of Mohammad Salman.

During interrogation, Salman disclosed that he had sold the car approximately 18 months ago to one Devendra, a resident of Okhla in southeast Delhi. The vehicle subsequently changed hands multiple times before being purchased by Tariq, a resident of Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir. Delhi Police have taken Salman into custody for questioning and are verifying the complete ownership and transaction trail.

However, the most significant breakthrough came when investigators identified the actual owner of the car at the time of the blast as Dr. Umar Mohammad, also from Pulwama, who was a key member of the Faridabad-based terror module.

Faridabad Terror Module Connection

Security agencies have established a direct link between the Delhi blast and the recently busted Faridabad terror module connected to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind. Just hours before the Red Fort explosion, Jammu and Kashmir Police had seized a massive cache of 2,900 kilograms of IED-making materials, including 350 kg of ammonium nitrate, along with weapons and ammunition from two residential buildings in Faridabad.

Top intelligence sources told India Today that Dr. Umar Mohammad, who owned the blast car, allegedly panicked after investigators arrested two key members of the terror module, Dr. Muzammil Shakeel and Dr. Adil Rather, in the Faridabad operation. Seven individuals, including two doctors, were arrested in the crackdown on this white-collar terror network.

Investigators believe that Dr. Umar may have deliberately detonated the explosives-laden vehicle in a desperate fidayeen-style attack after his associates were captured. The Faridabad module had been under surveillance for months for alleged involvement in arms smuggling and terror financing across northern India.

High-Level Response and Investigation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of the situation and spoke with Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the security situation following the blast. Shah visited Lok Nayak Hospital to meet the victims and has been in regular contact with the Intelligence Bureau director and Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha.

Commissioner Golcha confirmed that the blast occurred when “a slow-moving vehicle stopped at the red light” at the Subhash Marg traffic signal. Within 10 minutes of receiving information about the explosion, teams from the Delhi Crime Branch and Delhi Special Branch arrived at the spot, followed by NIA, NSG, and forensic teams.

A high alert has been sounded across Delhi, with heightened security measures implemented in neighboring Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai as well. Twenty fire engines were rushed to the spot, and the area was cordoned off as investigators continue their probe into all possibilities.
