Only one Indian in Liz Truss’s cabinet, Suella Braverman became Home Minister

New Delhi: Britain’s new Prime Minister Liz Truss has announced her cabinet. Indian-origin Suella Braverman has been made the new Home Minister of Britain. She will replace Priti Patel. This information has been given in a tweet made by the UK Prime Minister’s Office. The tweet said that Conservative MP Suella Braverman has been appointed as the new Secretary of State for the UK Home Department. Suella is an MP from Fareham, South East England. Goa-origin Suela Braverman (42) is currently serving as the Attorney General.

Suella Braverman also started her campaign as PM candidate but was eliminated in the second round, after which in July she extended her full support to Liz Truss along with her fellow Tory MPs. He appealed to his supporters to support the truss. In the Boris Johnson government too, the Home Minister was of Indian origin. Suella replaces Indian-origin Priti Patel. Liz Truss has appointed Ghanaian-born Kwasi Quartego as finance minister. The Truss has appointed women to the top four positions. Truss appointed Theresa Coffee as deputy prime minister and health minister.

42-year-old Suella Braverman is the daughter of Tamil Hindu mother Uma and Goa-born father Christy Fernandez. Suella married Royal Braverman in 2018. Suella has two children. His mother had come to England from Mauritius. Suella grew up in Britain. According to a BBC report, solving the problem of Rwandan refugees will be the biggest challenge before Suela. Suella is a staunch supporter of Brexit. She even supports the exclusion of Britain from the European Court of Human Rights. “I want to take advantage of the opportunities of Brexit to settle the outstanding issues of tax cuts,” Suella said. Suella had said as a PM candidate that she loved Britain. That’s what gave them hope. This gave them security. He said, “This country has given him a chance. So my background really informs my attitude towards politics. Now I am ready to become PM. I won’t need to learn to work.” However, Suella withdrew her name after a second-round exit.
