Balasore: In the wake of violent clashes between two groups in Balasore city, Odisha, the local government has taken stringent measures to quell the unrest. Internet services have been suspended for 48 hours, and the curfew has been extended indefinitely to prevent further disturbances after 10 individuals were injured this Monday.

Balasore’s Superintendent of Police, Sagarika Nath, has called upon the citizens to remain indoors during the curfew and informed that seven FIRs related to the riots have been filed since Monday, with 34 arrests made thus far.

To enforce peace and order, over 40 police platoons are stationed throughout the city, particularly in areas prone to conflict. All six entry and exit routes of Balasore have been sealed off, although exceptions are made for those with examinations or medical emergencies who can present necessary documentation.

While specifics on property damage and vehicle destruction remain undisclosed by SP Nath, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has stepped in, directing immediate action toward peace restoration. The Chief Minister has also been in talks with Balasore District Collector Ashish Thackeray regarding the situation.

The unrest began following a protest against cattle sacrifice that escalated when another group reportedly threw stones, sparking the clashes. Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar is currently overseeing the situation in Balasore.

Local MLA Manas Dutta and MP Pratap Sarangi have urged the public to disregard rumors and misleading social media posts related to the violence, emphasizing that old images are being circulated as recent events. Both officials have reiterated calls for calm and assured that all necessary steps are being taken to restore peace in Balasore.
