Islamabad: Pakistan said on Friday that it was not bound by the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons as the treaty failed to take into account the interests of all stakeholders. The treaty on the prohibition of nuclear weapons came into force on 22 January. The treaty came into existence at the end of the Second World War after a decades-long campaign aimed at preventing the recurrence of the US dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Came.
Although many nations welcomed it as a historic step, the treaty was opposed by nuclear armed nations of the world including America, China, Russia, Britain and India. Japan also did not support the agreement. Pakistan’s Foreign Office said in a statement that the treaty adopted in July 2017 was negotiated ‘outside the UN Disarmament Dialogue forums. According to the statement, “Accordingly, Pakistan does not consider itself bound by any of the obligations contained in this treaty.”
