New Delhi: The social media platform is once again surrounded by questions on Facebook. A Delhi Assembly committee on Monday said that it will summon its officials against Facebook on allegations of ‘willfully not taking action against malicious content’ in India.

The move comes against the backdrop of news published in the Wall Street Journal on Friday. The news, citing interviews of Facebook workers, claimed that a senior Indian policy officer in an internal letter to stop a permanent ban on a BJP MLA from Telangana for allegedly posting posts containing communal allegations It was interfering.

An official statement of the committee of Delhi Legislative Assembly said that after carefully discussing the allegations made in the complaints received, the committee headed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Raghav Chadha has decided to take immediate cognizance of the issue.

It said, “In view of this, it forces the committee to take immediate cognizance and to consider it painstakingly whether Facebook officials had any role or connivance in the recent riots in Delhi.”

“The summons will be sent to the relevant officials of Facebook and most importantly Ankhi Das in the coming time, which will ensure their presence in the relevant proceedings of the committee and the committee will call a meeting to start its proceedings this week,” the statement said. ‘ Das is the Director of Public Policy of Facebook in India, South and Central Asia.

On the other hand, Facebook clarified on Monday amid such allegations that its speeches and content that promotes hate or malice are banned on its platform, which is expected to spread violence.
