Himachal Pradesh faces havoc due to heavy rains, roads damaged, vehicles stranded, orange alert issued

New Delhi: Himachal Pradesh is witnessing continuous rainfall, which has caused havoc in the state. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for the next 24 hours and all schools and colleges will remain closed.

The situation in Shimla has worsened due to incessant rains. Out of 26 roads in the city, 7 are closed and 1 is open only for light vehicles. In outer Shimla, out of 14 roads, 3 are closed and 3 are open only for light vehicles. The Kullu-Mandi road has been damaged due to heavy rains, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded in Kullu district.

The state has recorded 351 deaths due to the disaster, while 38 people are still missing and 336 people have been injured. The orange alert has been issued for Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Hamirpur, Una Mandi, Kangra, Chamba, Kullu, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand is also facing trouble due to continuous rains. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in the state till August 25. All schools from classes 1 to 12 in Udham Singh Nagar and Chamoli districts have been ordered to close on August 24. A red alert has been issued for many districts of the state for today i.e. Thursday, August 24. The administration and the people are on alert mode.
