New Delhi: As the year inches toward its close, December begins with a jolt for commercial gas users in India. Oil marketing companies have increased the prices of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders across major cities, further burdening businesses reliant on bulk gas supplies. However, there’s some solace for households as the 14 kg domestic LPG cylinder prices remain unchanged.
Revised LPG Rates Across Cities
Here’s a breakdown of the new prices for 19 kg LPG cylinders:
- Delhi: Now priced at ₹1818.50, up from ₹1802.
- Kolkata: Increased to ₹1927 from ₹1911.50.
- Mumbai: Hiked to ₹1771 from ₹1754.50.
- Chennai: Raised to ₹1980.50, up from ₹1964.50.
This follows a similar price hike in November when the same 19 kg cylinder saw increases of ₹62 in Delhi, ₹61 in Kolkata, and ₹62.50 in Mumbai.
Impact on Businesses
The consistent rise in prices of commercial LPG cylinders has placed a strain on restaurants, small eateries, and other commercial establishments. Industry insiders say this might result in increased operational costs, likely to trickle down to customers.
Domestic LPG Prices Hold Steady
Amid the hikes for commercial users, the price of the 14 kg domestic LPG cylinder—used by most households—remains steady:
- Delhi: ₹803
- Kolkata: ₹829
- Mumbai: ₹802.50
- Chennai: ₹818.50
Rising Concerns Over Inflation
This upward trajectory in LPG prices mirrors the broader inflationary pressures affecting various sectors. While the government has refrained from altering domestic LPG rates, the escalating costs for businesses pose challenges for an economy seeking to balance growth with affordability.
The consecutive monthly increases underscore the volatile nature of fuel pricing, influenced by international crude oil markets and currency fluctuations. As the year concludes, all eyes are on whether the trend will stabilize or continue into 2024.
