New Delhi: Representatives of the self-proclaimed nation ‘Kailasa’ of Tantrik Nithyananda recently participated in the discussion of the United Nations (UN) Committee on Sustainable Development in Geneva. At the meeting, the representative of the fictional country sought protection for the rape-accused religious leader, whom he called the ‘supreme priest of Hinduism’. On 24 February, a woman named Vijayapriya Nithyananda represented Kailasa as a ‘Permanent Ambassador’ to the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (CESCR).

In a video of the event uploaded on the UN website, the woman, dressed in a sari, turban, and jewelry can be seen speaking about the initiatives taken by her country in the field of ‘sustainable development’. The woman said during this time that ‘Kailaasa’ is the first sovereign state for Hindus, which was established by Nityananda Paramasivam. Which is reviving ‘enlightened Hindu civilization’ and its 10,000 indigenous Hindu traditions.

Nithyananda also posted pictures of the event on his official Twitter account along with information about the all-women delegation. She said the delegation participated in the discussion on ‘equal and inclusive representation of women in the decision-making system’. Apart from these things, the United Nations does not recognize ‘Kailaasa’ as a country and the international agency said that these comments were made when the forum was opened to the public.

In an official response to India Today, the United Nations said that ‘Kailaasa’ participated in the discussions as a non-governmental organization (NGO). The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva said the ‘Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) will not be published because it is irrelevant to the topic of general discussion’.

The video went viral with the actress in an objectionable position
It is known that Nithyananda, whose real name is Rajasekharan, is a native of Tamil Nadu. He rose to prominence after establishing an ashram near Bangalore in the early 2000s. In 2010, Nithyananda made headlines after his video in an objectionable position with an actress went viral. Later he was accused of rape and was arrested. He was arrested and charge-sheeted in a separate case of rape.

This is how ‘Kailaasa’ was made
He fled from India in the year 2019 and established his ashram at a place called ‘Kailaasa’. The exact location of ‘Kailaasa’ is not clear, but it is reportedly located on an island off the Pacific coast of Central America. It is said that the country has its own passport, flag, and even a bank named ‘Reserve Bank of Kailasa’. Fugitive Tantrik claims to represent two billion Hindus in ‘Kailaasa’.
