New Delhi: There has been news of an attack on the Indian Consulate located in San Francisco, USA. According to the local media report on the matter, the incident took place from 1.30 to 2.30 on Sunday morning, when some Khalistani supporters allegedly attacked the embassy and set it on fire. Be aware that this is the second such incident in the last 5 months when the Indian Embassy has been targeted by Khalistani supporters. The US State Department has strongly condemned this act of violence.

And according to a report in local media Diya TV, the United States has strongly condemned the incident. The fire at the embassy was brought under control by the San Francisco Fire Department before it could take a serious form. According to reports on the matter, the embassy has not suffered much damage due to the fire and no staff has been injured here. It is also being said that alleged Khalistani supporters have also released a video regarding the incident. However, the authenticity of the video is not confirmed.

In this video shared by Khalistani supporters, it is claimed that they attacked the embassy in protest against the gunning down of the group’s Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. Najjar was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen in Surrey, Canada. Late Nijjar was also associated with Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) and used to be the President of Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Canada.

A poster allegedly circulated by Sikh extremists targeted the Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Consul General of the Consulate General of India in San Francisco Dr TV Nagendra Prasad, who was killed in June by K Hardeep Singh of the Khalistan Tiger Force. The poster has accused him of playing a role in Nijjar’s murder.

On the incident, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller tweeted, “The US strongly condemns the alleged vandalism and attempted arson against the Indian Consulate in San Francisco.” He has called it a crime against foreign diplomats in America.

There was an attack in March as well
It is noteworthy that even before this, the last March, Khalistani supporters attacked the Indian Embassy in San Francisco itself and damaged the building. Even then the incident was condemned by the Government of India and the US and immediate action was also demanded against those involved in the attack.
