New Delhi: The Central Government has filed an affidavit in the Delhi High Court regarding the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in the country. In the affidavit filed in the Delhi High Court, it has been said that the matter is pending before the Law Commission and the Law Commission is considering it deeply. The affidavit said that after the report of the Law Commission, the central government will take a decision. At present, according to the affidavit by the Central Government, no idea has been taken to implement the Uniform Civil Code. Only after the report of the Law Commission, the central government will decide its stand on the Uniform Civil Code.

Under Article 44 of the Constitution, it is the responsibility of the states to implement the Uniform Civil Code, but the big question is why the Uniform Civil Code has not been implemented yet? The Supreme Court also raised questions on the non-implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in the country. The Supreme Court even said that the government did not make any concerted effort to enact a Uniform Civil Code as per the requirements of Article 44 of the Constitution. The Supreme Court had suggested for the first time in April 1985 regarding the creation of a Uniform Civil Code.

What is Uniform Civil Code?
Uniform Civil Code i.e. Uniform Civil Code means that there should be a uniform law for the person of any religion, caste, and community residing in India. Uniform Civil Code is a secular law that is equal for people of all religions and is above the personal law of any religion or caste.

Under the Uniform Civil Code, there will be one law in the whole country in matters related to marriage, divorce, and property in any religion or community. That is, no religion or community will have its own personal law. At present, Muslim, Christian, and Parsi communities have their own laws in the country, different from Hindu civil law. Apart from Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists come under the purview of Hindu Civil Law. In such a situation, if the Uniform Civil Code is implemented in the country, then it will be a fair law that will not be bound by any religion.
