Patiala: Former Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu will be released from Patiala Jail. Navjot Singh Sidhu’s release can happen anytime between 12 noon to 5 pm on Saturday. Sidhu’s early release is due to not taking any leave during his sentence. Navjot Singh Sidhu was sentenced to one-year imprisonment by the Supreme Court on May 19 last year in the road rage case. This case related to Sidhu is from 1988 i.e. 34 years old. Sidhu surrendered after being sentenced in a decades-old case. He is lodged in Patiala Jail since May 20, 2022, after being sentenced to one year in the road rage case.

At the same time, an invitation has been sent to the Congress party regarding the release and reception of Sidhu. For this, big billboards of Navjot Singh Sidhu are also being put up at various places.

Let us tell you that on December 27, 1988, Sidhu had a dispute with Gurnam Singh, a resident of Patiala, regarding the parking lot. Sidhu and his friend Rupinder Singh Sandhu allegedly dragged Gurnam Singh out of his car and assaulted him. Gurnam Singh later died in a hospital. An eyewitness had accused Sidhu of killing Gurnam Singh by hitting him on the head.

What was the matter
The Supreme Court, while hearing the petition of Gurnam Singh’s family, had sentenced him to one year’s imprisonment last year. Gurnam Singh died in 1988 after a fight with Sidhu and his friend, although the cause of death was given as a heart attack in the post-mortem report. Gurnam Singh’s family had demanded strict punishment and a review of the Supreme Court’s 2018 order, in which Sidhu was acquitted of the murder charge.

After this, the Supreme Court sentenced him to one year’s rigorous imprisonment. The Supreme Court had said in its order that any sympathy shown for awarding inadequate punishment would further damage the justice system and would adversely affect public confidence in the effectiveness of the law.
