New Delhi: A shocking incident of poor food hygiene came to light on Friday when a passenger of IndiGo Airlines found a worm in the sandwich served to her during the flight. The passenger, Khushboo Gupta, recorded a video of the worm-infested sandwich and posted it on Instagram, sparking outrage and disgust among the netizens.
The Incident
Khushboo Gupta was traveling from Delhi to Mumbai on IndiGo flight 6E 6107 on Friday when she was served a sandwich as part of the in-flight meal. To her horror, she discovered a live worm crawling out of the sandwich. She immediately alerted the cabin crew and complained about the food quality.
However, she alleged that the cabin crew did not take her complaint seriously and continued to serve the same sandwiches to other passengers. She also questioned the training and competence of the airline staff and asked who would be held accountable if someone fell ill after eating the contaminated food.
She then took out her phone recorded a video of the wormy sandwich and uploaded it on her Instagram account. The video soon went viral and drew angry reactions from the social media users, who slammed the airline for its negligence and demanded action against the responsible parties.
The Response
IndiGo Airlines, which is India’s largest and most profitable airline, issued an apology and a statement on Saturday, saying that it is aware of the issue and is investigating the matter. The airline spokesperson said that the team stopped serving the sandwich as soon as they learned about the incident and are working closely with their kitchen staff to take appropriate corrective action.
The spokesperson also said that the airline sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused to the passengers and assures them that the safety and quality of food are of utmost priority for the airline. The spokesperson added that the airline is in touch with the passenger and is providing her with all the necessary assistance.
