CNG and LPG kits

New Delhi: Now car owners will get rid of the rising petrol-diesel price. Recently, by issuing a notification, the Central Government has approved the installation of CNG and LPG kits in Bharat Stage (BS-6) vehicles. Also, diesel engines with a weight of fewer than 3.5 tonnes have been allowed to be replaced with CNG/LPG engines.

A few days ago, the Union Ministry of Road Transport had sent a proposal regarding this to the Government of India. Till now retro fitment of CNG and LPG kits in motor vehicles was not allowed under BS-VI emission norms.

According to the notification, the approval of vehicles retrofitted with CNG kit will be valid for 3 years. However, it can be renewed every 3 years. Retrofit approval for CNG operation will be given for specially manufactured vehicles. Explain that CNG is an environmentally friendly fuel.

This will be the limit
The kit will be fitted to any vehicle as per the specified limit, i.e. ±7% for vehicles up to 1500cc and vehicles above 1500 CC to be considered suitable for retro fitment within the capacity limit of ±5%. Further, the CNG vehicle or kit components, including their installation, shall conform to the safety checks given in Annex IX.

Get the kit installed only from an authorized dealer
Not all CNG kits installed in a car are genuine. In such a situation, before installing any CNG kit in your car, recognize its veracity. You should avoid getting the kit from a local vendor and get the kit installed from an authorized dealer only. However, poor quality kits and improper fitting can lead to leakage. There is a danger of fire due to this.

Fire warning system required in passenger buses
In another decision, the ministry has made it mandatory to install fire alarm and suppression systems in long-distance passenger buses and school buses. The passenger buses and school buses, which are being built and operated to cover long distances, will have to install a fire prevention system in the part where people sit, the statement said. For this, a notification has been issued on 27 January.
