Improved compared to the June quarter
However, liquor sales improved during the September quarter compared to the June quarter. According to the data, during the current financial year, i.e. from April to September, the sales of IMFL across the country have been 1,220 lakh cases. This is 29.06 percent less than the 1,720 lakh belts of the same period last year.

The industry body says there has been some improvement in liquor sales in the second quarter, but the first quarter has been a real loss. Liquor sales across the country were closed for some time during the first quarter due to the lockdown.

According to CIABC, states like Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, and Rajasthan saw a sharp decline in liquor sales. The reason for this is that these states had levied corona tax when liquor sales started after the lockdown.
