The co-pilot who lost his life has been identified as Major Sankalp Yadav (29), while the injured pilot, a lieutenant colonel-rank officer, was rescued from the crash site and taken to the Command Hospital in Udhampur. BSF Inspector General (Kashmir Frontier) Raja Babu Singh said, “I salute the dedication and bravery of the pilot who undertook such a difficult evacuation operation.” Officials said the Army launched a rescue operation soon after the Cheetah crashed and deployed an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) and troops for the operation.

He said both the pilots were pulled out of the crashed helicopter, but Major Yadav has declared brought dead on arrival at the hospital. “Major Yadav had joined the Army in 2015 and was from Jaipur, Rajasthan.
