Boiler blast in Nagpur’s sugar factory, five dead

Nagpur: Five workers were killed when a boiler exploded at a sugar factory in Nagpur district of Maharashtra on Saturday afternoon. The accident took place at Manas Agro Industries and Infrastructure Ltd. at around 2.15 pm near the company’s biogas plant at Bela village in Umred tehsil.

The dead include Mangesh Prabhakar Maidkar (21), Liladhar Vamanrao Shende (42), Vasudev Ladi (30), Sachin Prakash Waghmare (24) and Prafulla Pandurang Moon (25) and are all residents of the village of Vadgaon.

According to the police, Sachin Waghmare was working as a welder, while others were helpful. After this explosion, smoke started coming out of the sugar factory. Police said that all five workers died on the spot due to severe burns.

After the incident, Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ola visited the spot and said that the police is investigating it

According to a police officer, the blast rocked the factory, which is part of the Manas group and was earlier known as ‘Purti Power and Sugar Factory’ owned by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s family.
