New Delhi: 235 Kendriya Vidyalayas in the country do not have permanent buildings and are working in temporary buildings. This has been said in a report of the parliamentary committee. As per the report, the education ministry told the parliamentary committee that 235 Kendriya Vidyalayas are functioning in temporary accommodation provided by the sponsoring agency.

There are a total of 1,253 Kendriya Vidyalayas in the country. The ‘Action Taken Report by the Government’ of the Standing Committee on Education, Women, Child, Youth and Sports, headed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Vivek Thakur, was presented in both houses of Parliament on August 8. was introduced. As per the report, “Land has been transferred to 107 of these 235 Kendriya Vidyalayas and construction work has started there. Land has also been allotted to 72 other Kendriya Vidyalayas but the work is yet to start there.

It said land has been transferred to five other Kendriya Vidyalayas but there is a dispute over it, while 51 Kendriya Vidyalayas are yet to be allotted land. As per the report, the committee appreciated that out of 235 Kendriya Vidyalayas, 184 have been allotted land. The parliamentary committee also mentioned that 107 Kendriya Vidyalayas are under construction and work in respect 77 is yet to start.

Reportedly, the committee has urged the Department of School Education and Literacy to take up the issue with the concerned state governments and agencies to facilitate the process of setting up permanent Kendriya Vidyalayas. The committee said that coordination with the local authorities is necessary to expedite the process in this regard and remove any administrative hurdles and where land has been allotted, the construction of buildings should be completed in a mission mode.
