Islamabad: The Imran Khan government in Pakistan has suffered a major setback. The Election Commission has temporarily suspended the membership of 150 federal and provincial public representatives on Monday for not giving details of assets and liabilities. It includes Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. Last year, the commission had suspended the membership of at least 154 public representatives, but later all of them submitted the relevant details and their membership was reinstated.

The move by Pakistan’s election body came after elected representatives violated the rule of compulsorily filing assets and liabilities by the end of each year. The Election Commission said that the representatives whose membership has been suspended cannot take part in the parliamentary proceedings. Their membership will remain suspended till they submit their relevant details.

Imran’s party hid the details of donations
Earlier it was reported that Pakistan Takreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the party of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan, did not give full details of funds received from foreign nationals and companies to the Election Commission of the country. He also hid his account information. This claim was made in the media news quoting a report compiled by the Election Commission.

The Dawn newspaper quoted a report compiled by the Scrutiny Committee of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as saying that the ruling party had earned Rs 31 crore during the four-year period between FY 2009-10 and FY 2012-13. Concealed information related to the donation of 20 lakh Pakistani rupees.

Election Commission’s investigation team released the report
The investigation team of the Election Commission has issued a report on this matter, in which this important information has come to the fore. The report revealed that PTI had given wrong information to the commission regarding funding. According to the report, the State Bank of Pakistan’s statement showed that the party had received 1.64 billion rupees, out of which no account of more than 31 crore rupees was kept. Various opposition parties including Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) have condemned the government and demanded an inquiry into the matter.

Opposition alleges theft
PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz had said in a statement that Imran Khan not only stole and hid, but also looted people’s money. PDM spokesperson Hafiz Hamdulla had issued a statement saying that the findings of the Election Commission expose the theft of Imran Khan and PTI. Hamdulla said that the investigation team has exposed the real face of PTI in front of the country. Imran Khan and PTI, who have accused others of theft, have proved themselves to be thieves.
