Lahore: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif delivered his first televised speech in three years despite a ban on speech. Sharif was banned from giving speeches after he was declared a fugitive. According to a media report on Tuesday, Sharif’s speech was indicative of the soft stance of the government-run of his brother Shahbaz Sharif.
Sharif has been living in the UK since 2019 after leaving the country on the pretext of medical treatment. The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has banned Sharif in the wake of him being declared guilty and a fugitive.
Nawaz Sharif, a three-time prime minister, made a short speech on Sunday and made an emotional appeal for help to Pakistan, a country badly hit by the floods. In his address, Sharif appealed to the people to help the needy.

Sharif’s party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is currently leading the coalition government in Pakistan. He was declared a fugitive by the Islamabad High Court on June 24 last year for his persistent non-appearance in court in corruption-related cases. Earlier, he was serving a sentence of 10 years and seven years in two corruption cases.
