Thiruvananthapuram: The first patient of monkeypox found in the country has been discharged from the hospital. A 35-year-old man from Kollam, Kerala, who had returned from the UAE, was found infected with the monkeypox virus. He was undergoing treatment at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College for the last 17 days. State Health Minister Veena George told news agency ANI on Sunday that the country’s first patient infected with the monkeypox virus has been discharged from the hospital. All its parameters are constant. Samples of his primary contacts were tested, and all have been found negative.
Kerala Health Minister Veena George, on July 12, while confirming the first case of monkeypox in the state, said, ‘The patient has returned from UAE. After showing signs of monkeypox in him, his sample was sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune for examination at Trivandrum airport. In the investigation, he has been found infected with monkeypox. WHO. And as per the guidelines issued by ICMR, the patient has been isolated at Trivandrum Medical College.
The Health Minister of Kerala said that the state government has issued a guideline regarding monkeypox. The condition of the first patient in the country and the state is stable and all his organs are working normally. He has been discharged after being isolated at Trivendra Medical College for 17 days. The symptoms of monkeypox are no longer visible in him. His primary contacts were identified. Samples of the patient’s parents, taxi driver, auto driver, and 11 passengers of the flight from which he had come were sent to NIV Pune for examination. The report of all of them has come negative.
Monkeypox belongs to the Orthopoxvirus genus in the virus family. The orthopoxvirus genus also includes variola virus (which causes smallpox), vaccinia virus (used in the smallpox vaccine), and cowpox virus. The symptoms of monkeypox in humans are similar to those of chickenpox but mild and include fever, headache, muscle aches, and tiredness 7-14 days after infection. Its common symptoms include fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, feeling tired and swollen lymph glands, etc.
