Mumbai: Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has resigned today, taking moral responsibility on allegations of corruption. After Deshmukh’s resignation, Dilip Walse Patil has been given the charge of Home Minister. Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office has announced this. Dilip Valsay Patil was till now handling the work of the Labor Department, whose additional charge has now been given to Hassan Mushrif. At the same time, the state excise department has been given to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
Dilip Patil has long experience in the politics of Maharashtra. He has handled various ministries from 1999 to 2008. Dilip Patil, who hails from Ambegaon area of the state, is a six-time MLA. He is the Excise and Labor Minister in the present government. During 1999 to 2008, Patil has held high profile portfolio such as Finance Minister, Energy Minister, Higher and Technical Education Minister.
Sharad Pawar is considered to be very close
Patil is considered to be very close to Sharad Pawar. Patil started his political career as a personal assistant to Sharad Pawar. His father Dattatreya Valse Patil was a Congress MLA and a close friend of Sharad Pawar. Dilip Patil started his political career by defeating Kishenrao of Congress from Ambegaon seat. Since then, this assembly is seen as their stronghold.
What did Deshmukh say while resigning
In his resignation to the Chief Minister, Anil Deshmukh has said that after the Bombay High Court order, it is not right for him to continue as the Home Minister, hence he is submitting his resignation. Let me tell you that today the Bombay High Court has asked the CBI to start a preliminary inquiry within 15 days on the corruption charges leveled by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh against Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.
