Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has ignited a political firestorm by accusing the former Jagan Mohan Reddy government of using animal fat instead of ghee in the sacred Tirupati temple laddus. Naidu’s allegations have sparked nationwide outrage, with claims that the purity of the temple’s offerings was compromised under the previous administration.
During a recent NDA Legislature Party meeting, Naidu asserted that the renowned Tirumala laddus were made from substandard materials, including animal fat, rather than the traditional pure ghee. He emphasized that his government has since restored the use of pure ghee, significantly improving the quality of the laddus.
Significance of Tirupati Laddus for Devotees
The laddus offered as prasad at the Tirupati temple hold immense significance for devotees. Naidu highlighted that during the first 100 days of his administration, it was discovered that substandard ingredients were being used in the prasad of Lord Venkateshwara. The temple trust, responsible for preparing approximately 3 lakh laddus daily, has since ensured the use of high-quality ingredients.
YSRCP’s Strong Rebuttal
The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has vehemently denied Naidu’s allegations. Senior party leader YV Subba Reddy labeled the accusations as malicious, claiming they are an attempt to undermine the Tirupati temple and the faith of millions of Hindus. He accused Naidu of resorting to any means for political gain.
Nara Lokesh’s Accusations
Adding fuel to the fire, Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh took to social media platform X to criticize the Jagan Mohan Reddy government. Lokesh alleged that animal fat was used in the prasadam laddu at the Lord Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Tirumala, one of the holiest temples for Hindus. He accused the YSRCP government of disrespecting the religious sentiments of countless devotees.
The Ongoing Debate
As the controversy continues to unfold, the debate over the purity of the Tirupati laddus remains a contentious issue. The allegations and counter-allegations have not only stirred political tensions but also raised concerns among devotees about the sanctity of the temple’s offerings. The temple trust and the state government are now under pressure to address these serious claims and ensure the continued faith of the devotees in the sacred prasad.
