New Delhi: The Congress party has escalated its demand for the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, announcing a nationwide protest campaign, “Dr. Ambedkar Samman Week.” The week-long agitation aims to honor the legacy of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar while pressuring the government over the controversial remarks made by Shah in the Rajya Sabha.
Dr. Ambedkar Samman Week
Starting with press conferences on December 22-23, Congress leaders, including MPs and members of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), will address their constituencies and districts to highlight the issue.
On December 24, the party will hold a “Babasaheb Ambedkar Samman March” across the country. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal emphasized that the march would showcase Ambedkar’s ideals and highlight the party’s demands.
“All Congress workers will garland statues of Babasaheb Ambedkar, carry his portraits, and display placards with key demands. Memorandums demanding Amit Shah’s resignation will be submitted to President Droupadi Murmu through district collectors,” said Venugopal.
Major Rally in Belagavi
The protest will culminate in a grand rally in Belagavi, Karnataka, on December 26-27, coinciding with the Extended Congress Working Committee session. The event is expected to feature senior party leaders and underline Congress’ commitment to Ambedkar’s principles.
Allegations Against Amit Shah
The agitation stems from remarks made by Amit Shah in the Rajya Sabha, which the Congress claims undermined Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy. The party has accused Shah of “attacking Ambedkar’s ideals” and aligning with regressive ideologies.
KC Venugopal, in a post on X, declared, “We will fight to protect Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy against the worshipers of Manusmriti. Our agitation demanding Amit Shah’s resignation will continue!”
Congress’ Call to Action
The Congress is leveraging Ambedkar’s towering legacy to rally public support and highlight the BJP-led government’s alleged disregard for constitutional values. The protest week will also include widespread public engagement, with Congress workers emphasizing the party’s historical association with Ambedkar’s vision.
A Battle for Ambedkar’s Ideals
The Congress’ intensified campaign signals its intent to take on the government by invoking the iconic legacy of Dr. Ambedkar. With nationwide marches, rallies, and press conferences, the party aims to spotlight its demands and mobilize support.
As the political temperature rises, all eyes are on December 24’s march and the grand rally in Karnataka, which promise to be significant milestones in the Congress’ agitation against Amit Shah.
