Cloth that keeps mosquito-flies and pests away

Indore: Two young entrepreneurs from Indore city of Madhya Pradesh have discovered a formula in the field of textile technology that relieves the problem of mosquitoes, flies and ants. He claims that clothes made from this formula work for up to 50 washes, meaning they are effective in keeping these pests away.

Young entrepreneurs Shrestha and Mayur Malpani started the company in the year 2017 as “Clothing Innovation”. The “armor technology” used for special treatment of clothes in their factory has been applied for patent. Malpani hoped that due to his discovery, there would be no need for traditional repellents or mosquito repellent creams or sprays.

In fact, it is a startup that offers special treatment for all types of clothing other than silk and velvet. Provides Apart from this the startup also sells insect repellent, anti-microbial, and anti-bacterial clothing for children and adults.

This is armor technology
The foundation for “Clothing Innovation” lay at the startup hub NSRCEL of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore. Here the company’s co-founders spent nearly a year and a half researching and developing the Lasting Formulation, which they have now named Armor Insect Repellent Formulation.

According to Malpani, the insect repellent his startup uses is naturally found in some flowers. Through this, the company has developed a nanotechnology-based encapsulating process to treat normal clothing and convert them into insect-repellent variants. Malpani claims that this method follows safety standards according to the World Health Organization (WHO) standards.

Initial investment of 50 million
Mayur and Shrestha have been educated according to their profession. Mayur first received a degree in textile engineering from the Sri Vaishnav Institute of Engineering in Indore and then a master’s degree in product engineering and global marketing from Virginia Commonwealth University. He then did market research at a firm in Bangalore.

Prior to launching “Clothing Innovation”, he came back to Indore and got a job in a manufacturing company here. Shrestha holds an MBA degree from SCMLD, a reputed institute based in Pune. He has good experience in banking sector and apparel manufacturing. Both invested Rs 25 lakh each to start their manufacturing and production unit in Indore.

Proving success
Malpani said that at present the annual turnover of the company has reached to three crore rupees. It is also increasing by more than ten percent annually. The company has also started exporting to the US from September 2019. This is proving his success. According to Malpani, his startup is now working on “antiviral technology” and is looking to raise funds to expand the business.
