Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday hit out at the US, saying that it is not right to ‘strangle’ and ‘intervene’ in the internal affairs of other countries. The US and its allies are increasing pressure on China for human rights violations in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Xi said without directly mentioning the US, “There will be no endorsement of domination or interference in the internal affairs of others.” We should advocate peace, development, equality, justice, democracy, and freedom which are the common values of humanity, and to promote the progress of human civilization it is necessary to encourage mutual exchanges between civilizations. ”

The Chinese president addressed the annual conference at the influential thinktank Bao Forum for Asia (BFA) in Hainan in a video conference, saying, “In today’s world, we need justice, not hegemony.” He said, “Big countries should behave in a way that is in their stature and in which there is a great sense of responsibility.”

Significantly, US President Joe Biden has vigorously continued a policy on China initiated by former President Donald Trump. Biden has united allies like Britain, the European Union and Japan over his China-related policy. He also held the first summit of the Quadrilateral Group (Quad) of Australia, America, Japan and India. The United States, the European Union, Britain and Canada have imposed coordinated sanctions against China for alleged human rights violations against Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang.

However, China continues to deny such allegations. These countries have also adopted a unanimous opinion against the stand of Chinese suzerainty over Hong Kong. The BFA meeting was attended by Apple CEO Tim Cook, Tesla’s Elon Musk, Blackstone’s Stephen Schwarzman and Bridgewater’s Ray Dalio, according to news from the Hong Kong-run South China Morning Post. Xi, in his speech, called on all countries in Asia and beyond to defeat the epidemic through solidarity, strong global governance, and continue to work as a community for a shared future for humanity.
