Patna: The monsoon session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly concluded amidst unprecedented chaos on its final day, as a war of words between Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav and BJP members spiraled into a scuffle, leading to multiple adjournments of the House. The situation escalated to the point where Yadav later accused BJP MLAs of a “deadly attack” and a conspiracy to kill him.
The turmoil began shortly after the session commenced, with opposition members, primarily from the RJD, entering the well of the House to demand a discussion on the alleged NEET paper leak scandal. As they raised slogans, BJP Chief Whip Janak Singh made pointed remarks directed at Tejashwi Yadav, reportedly alluding to his family’s past.
In a sharp retort, Yadav told Singh, “Do not speak loudly, the trousers will get wet.” This comment was immediately decried as unparliamentary and threatening by the treasury benches, causing pandemonium.
Uproar and Scuffles Erupt
Yadav’s remark acted as a flashpoint, igniting tensions between the opposition and the ruling NDA coalition. Members from both sides surged forward, engaging in aggressive posturing and shouting. Visuals from the House showed RJD MLA Bhai Birendra and BJP MLA Sanjay Singh in a heated confrontation, with members from both parties coming to blows and nearly exchanging fists. Marshals were forced to intervene to separate the enraged legislators.
In light of the escalating chaos, Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav urged for calm and repeatedly appealed to the members to maintain the decorum of the House. However, with the ruckus continuing unabated, he was compelled to adjourn the proceedings, initially until 12:30 PM and later until 4 PM.
Tejashwi Alleges Conspiracy to Kill Him
Following the adjournment, Tejashwi Yadav leveled serious allegations against the BJP. Speaking to the media outside the Assembly, he claimed that BJP MLAs Janak Singh and Sanjay Singh had conspired to launch a “deadly attack” on him. “They broke the mike with the intention of a deadly attack,” Yadav stated, adding that his party’s MLA, Vijay Samrat, had intervened to save his life.
His mother and former Chief Minister, Rabri Devi, reinforced the gravity of the accusation. “This was the fourth attempt to kill Tejashwi Yadav,” she declared, alleging a broader conspiracy by the BJP and JD(U) against her son.
Nitish Kumar Condemns Opposition’s Conduct
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar sharply criticized the opposition’s conduct, accusing them of a deliberate plan to disrupt the Assembly’s functioning. He pointed out that many opposition members had arrived wearing black clothes, suggesting a coordinated protest.
“These people only create a ruckus,” Kumar said. “The government has done so much work and has benefited people in every way, yet they collude to cause disruption.” He condemned the unparliamentary language and behavior, holding the opposition responsible for the day’s pandemonium.
