New Delhi: In a significant development, Challa Sreenivasulu Setty has taken over as the 27th Chairman of State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest public sector bank. Setty’s appointment follows the superannuation of Dinesh Khara, who served as the bank’s chairman until his retirement.
A Distinguished Career Path
Before assuming the chairmanship, Setty held the position of senior-most managing director within SBI. His journey within the bank began in 1988 when he joined as a Probationary Officer. Over the next three decades, Setty’s career trajectory showcased his expertise across various domains, including corporate credit, retail banking, digital services, and international finance.
Key Assignments and Contributions
Setty’s leadership extends beyond routine banking operations. He has actively participated in several task forces and committees initiated by the Government of India. His strategic insights have significantly impacted SBI’s retail and digital banking portfolio. Notably, Setty has also served in critical roles such as Deputy Managing Director in the Stressed Assets Resolution Group, Chief General Manager, and General Manager in the Corporate Accounts Group.

Setty’s academic journey began in Telugu medium government schools, where he excelled as a bright student. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU). Additionally, he is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers.
