Washington: Joe Biden, the newly elected President of the United States of America, has appointed his chief adviser on Covid-19 and an American Dr. of Indian Origin. Dr. Vivek Murthy has been appointed as the next Surgeon General. However, it has not yet been formally announced. This has been informed in the news in the media. Media reports say that Murthy was given the same role in the Obama administration. He had to resign suddenly during the Trump administration.

Biden’s three-member Covid-19 advisory board includes Doctor Murthy, 43, of Indian descent. Former U.S. Surgeon General Vivek H. Murthy has been asked to return to his old role, the Washington Post reported on Thursday, citing a person involved in the decision. A formal announcement in this regard will be made soon.

The term of the Surgeon General in the United States is four years and he is the top government official in matters of public health. Jerome Adams is currently in office. Murthy was appointed Surgeon General on December 15, 2014, after a 51-43 vote in the Senate. He was fired on April 21, 2017, by President Donald Trump’s administration. Dr. Murthy, the co-founder of Doctors for America, has worked in many hospitals.
