Karachi: A terrorist attack on Chinese engineers took place on Sunday afternoon in the port city of Gwadar in Pakistan’s restive province of Balochistan. Which 4 Chinese engineers, 9 Pakistani soldiers, and two terrorists have been killed, while 27 people have been injured.

According to Pakistani media, this major port is a major port of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor worth billions of dollars (CPEC) is a major point. Chinese engineers are present here for a thermal power project of CPEC. China is investing heavily in Balochistan under the CPEC project. Two years back also there was a fidayeen attack on Chinese engineers here. 9 engineers were killed in it.

No official information has been given by the Pakistani government and army about the casualties. However, the army claimed to have killed two terrorists. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the terror attack in a statement released on social media. He described the attack as a self-sacrificing operation.

The Baloch Liberation Army said in a statement, the BLA Majeed Brigade targeted a convoy of Chinese engineers in Gwadar today. The attack is still going on.

According to BLA spokesman Jiyand Baloch, two fidayeen Naveed Baloch alias Aslam Baloch of Dasht Nigor and Maqbool Baloch alias Qasim Baloch of Geshkor Awaran of BLA Majeed Brigade targeted a convoy of Chinese engineers in Gwadar today. He further said that the operation of Zirphazag continued for more than two hours.

According to the information received so far, at least four Chinese citizens and nine Pakistani army personnel were killed and many were injured, Jiang said. This is preliminary information and the number of enemy casualties may increase. After the successful execution of the operation, the BLA fighters chose their last bullets to end their lives, Giand said.

Gwadar terror attack

According to a report in The Balochistan Post, the attack on the convoy of Chinese engineers took place at around 9.30 am and the exchange of fire continued for about two hours. Pakistani security forces killed two terrorists in an encounter. The Balochistan Post quoted sources as saying that the other terrorists fled the scene with injuries.

Significantly, there has been an increase in terrorist activities especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan after the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan ended its ceasefire with the government in November last year. Last month, 12 Pakistani army soldiers were killed during operations in the Zhob and Sui areas of Balochistan.
