New Delhi: In Australia too, the use of the Chinese short video app Tiktok (Tiktok Ban) has been banned on government devices. Citing security reasons, the Australian government has ordered the implementation of this decision with immediate effect. Now the Chinese app will not be installed on the phone, computers, or any government employee or Australian MPs. Earlier, America, Britain, New Zealand, and France have also imposed a similar ban on Tiktok for security reasons. Although Tiktok’s parent company Bite Dance has rejected the allegations of espionage outright.
Australian Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus announced the ban on Tuesday after consulting intelligence and security agencies, saying the order would be implemented “as soon as possible”. According to a CNN report, reacting to the Australian government’s decision to ban Tiktok, Australia Tiktok manager Lee Hunter said that the company is disappointed with the government’s decision. Hunter called the decision politically motivated.
The notice by the Attorney General’s Department said that Tiktok is posing a serious security and privacy risk due to the extensive collection of user data and receiving judicial instructions from a foreign government. That’s why its use on government devices should be stopped.
8 million users
Hunter said that the company tried to contact the government several times in this regard. So far no such evidence has come to the fore to show that Tiktok poses any threat to Australia’s security. TikTok says that about 8 million people above the age of 18 are using Tiktok in Australia.
TikTok is completely banned in India
In 2020, the Government of India banned Tiktok. America, Britain, New Zealand, Canada, Belgium, and the European Commission have also banned Tiktok on government devices. Due to security reasons, these countries have banned the Chinese short video app. TikTok has come under the scrutiny of many countries. There is a danger that the data of Tiktok users can be shared with the Chinese government.
