Roorkee(UP): Algorithm has been developed by Richi Nayak, an alumnus of IIT Roorkee, to make the social media platform for women secure. This algorithm identifies and reports abusive posts and comments from women on social media. Knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics has been used in this research to solve social problems. In fact, until now, users or related platforms used to report suspected cases of harassment.
Richie Nayak said that domestic violence cases have increased rapidly in lockdown and people have spent more time on the Internet. At the same time, 52 percent women, girls have admitted that they have faced online abuse. Nayak says that the algorithm is used to represent the logic of a program in computer language. At the same time, the data of a mathematical problem has to be analyzed in this way. At the same time, his research focuses on training models with data sets like Wikipedia.
Mohammed Abdul Bashar has worked on this as an associate of Richie Nayak. IIT Roorkee Director Professor Ajit AK Chaturvedi said that I am happy that the technology co-developed by IITR’s Alumnus can be used to automatically mark harassment with women on social media. I hope that by detecting such suspicious posts, there will be a corrective change in the way women are treated on social media and on such platforms. At the same time, according to a survey by Pew Research Center in the year 2017, 39 percent women have been victimized online in some form or the other. In India, according to the Norton survey conducted by Symantec, eight out of 10 Indians have been victimized in some form or the other. At the same time, 41 percent of the women admitted that they had faced sexual harassment online.
