Jamtara: A tragic incident took place at Kalajharia railway station in Jamtara district on Wednesday evening, when a speeding train ran over a group of passengers who were crossing the tracks. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Jamtara, some deaths have been reported in the accident, but the exact number of casualties will be confirmed later.
The incident occurred around 7 pm, when the passengers of a local train, which had halted at Kalajharia station, got down from the train and tried to cross the tracks to reach the other platform. However, they failed to notice another train, which was coming from the opposite direction and got hit by it. The impact was so severe that some of the passengers were thrown off the tracks, while others were crushed under the wheels of the train.
As soon as the accident was reported, medical teams and ambulances rushed to the spot to provide relief and rescue operations. The injured passengers were taken to the nearby hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem. The railway authorities have ordered an inquiry into the incident and announced compensation for the victims’ families. The Deputy Commissioner of Jamtara expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and assured them of all possible assistance from the administration.
