Washington: Indian-American Kash Patel has been appointed Acting US Secretary of Defense Chris Miller’s Chief of Staff. The Pentagon provided this information.

The Pentagon’s appointment comes a day after President Trump fired Mark Asper as Secretary of Defense and Chris Miller, director of the National Counterterrorism Center, as acting Secretary of Defense. Miller took office on Monday, the Pentagon said Tuesday.

The Pentagon said in a statement on Tuesday that Kash Patel, who is currently serving in the National Security Council, had been appointed “chief of staff” by acting Secretary of Defense Miller.

Patel will replace Jane Stewart who has resigned. Kash’s full name is Kashyap Pramod Patel and he has previously worked in the House Permanent Select Committee. Patel, 39, was appointed in June 2019 as senior director in the National Security Council’s counter-terrorism directorate. He was born in New York but his origin is in Gujarat. However, Patel’s father was from Uganda and his mother was from Tanzania.
