Guwahati: In a significant move to ensure the integrity of recruitment examinations, the Assam government has announced the suspension of mobile internet services across the state on September 29. This measure aims to facilitate free and fair recruitment exams for Class III jobs. The internet shutdown will be in effect from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, as stated by the state’s Additional Chief Secretary, Ajay Tiwari.

According to Tiwari, this step is crucial to maintaining a transparent examination process and preventing any disruptions that could affect law and order. The notification has been issued under the provision of Section 5 (2) of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885.

A total of 734,080 candidates have registered to take the recruitment examination for Class III posts under the State Level Recruitment Commission. Successful candidates will be appointed to various departments based on the vacancies available³. The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) has been designated as the testing agency for these exams.

The written examinations will be conducted in two shifts: the first shift from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and the second shift from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM. These exams will take place at 822 centers across 27 districts.

The primary reason for suspending internet services is to prevent any potential misuse of social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, YouTube, and cam-scanner by anti-social elements, which could compromise the examination process. This precautionary measure is deemed necessary to uphold the integrity of the exams and ensure a smooth and fair recruitment process.
