Islamabad: At least 12 soldiers were killed and five others injured in two separate encounters with terrorists in Pakistan’s Balochistan province. The army has described it as the highest casualty in a single day in the troubled region. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, said in a statement that the terrorist attacks took place on Wednesday in the Sui and Zhob areas of the province. He said that at least seven terrorists have also been killed in these two encounters.

Unidentified gunmen attacked security forces conducting an operation in Sui, killing at least three soldiers and injuring five. The army said that two terrorists have been killed in this encounter. No organization has claimed responsibility for this. Earlier on Wednesday, terrorists had attacked a military post of an Ordnance Depot located in Zhob. Nine soldiers were killed in this attack and five terrorists were also killed in the encounter between the two sides.

The troops opened fire to foil the terrorists’ attempt to enter the post, which was followed by heavy firing from both sides. The ISPR said a woman passerby was also killed and five other civilians were injured in the deadly encounter at Zhob.
