New Delhi: In response to social media criticism, Zomato, a leading online food delivery service, announced on Wednesday that it will maintain a uniform dress code for all its delivery personnel. Contrary to the initial plan to differentiate vegetarian and non-vegetarian delivery staff by costume color, the company has decided to keep the iconic red attire for all.

Deepinder Goyal, Zomato’s CEO, addressed the controversy in a social media post, stating, “While we are dedicated to catering to our vegetarian customers with a specialized squad, we recognize the importance of unity and have thus opted to retain a single color for our uniforms. Both our standard and vegetarian squads will don the red costumes that have become synonymous with our brand.”

The decision to form a distinct team for vegetarian deliveries sparked a debate on social media platforms, with concerns raised about potential conflicts when delivery personnel attempted to enter residential areas. The color-coded system, distinguishing red and green uniforms, was met with apprehension that it could lead to disputes at society gates.

Acknowledging these concerns, Goyal confirmed that all delivery partners will now wear red, eliminating any visible distinction between those delivering vegetarian and non-vegetarian items. However, he clarified that the two delivery sections would still be displayed separately within the company’s app to ensure that customer preferences are respected.

This move comes as Zomato continues to adapt its services to meet diverse consumer needs while balancing societal sensitivities. The company’s commitment to inclusivity and customer satisfaction remains at the forefront of its operational decisions.
