Mumbai: The Mumbai-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat Superfast Express collided with a cow near Atul station in Gujarat on Saturday morning, delaying the train by 20 minutes to reach its destination. A railway official gave this information. Railway sources said that the front part of the train was damaged in the incident and the equipment of its first coach was also damaged. This is the third such incident related to this semi-high-speed train this month. The officer said that the incident took place at around 8.20 am. He said that the train collided with a cow on the track near Atul railway station. The train was halted for about 20 minutes due to the incident.

Sumit Thakur, Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway said, “There was no operational damage to the train. After stopping for 20 minutes, it started the onward journey.’ He told that all the passengers on the train are safe. Earlier, on October 6, four buffaloes died after being hit by a train on their way from Mumbai to Gandhinagar between Vatva and Maninagar railway stations in Gujarat. The next day (October 7) in a similar incident, the train collided with a cow near Anand in Gujarat while on its way to Mumbai. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the third train of the Vande Bharat series from Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat, on 30 September and its commercial operation started the next day.

However, eyewitnesses say that the coupler cover and BCU cover of the Vande Bharat Express were also damaged after they collided with a herd of cattle. The water supply of the train was also disrupted. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the highspeed train Vande Bharat’s Mumbai-Ahmedabad route on 30 September. This train can run at a speed of 180 to 200 km/h. Indian Railways has set a target of running 75 Vande Bharat trains in the country by August 15 next year. The country’s first two Vande Bharat trains started running between Delhi to Varanasi and Delhi to Katra. Now Vande Bharat Express has started running from Delhi to Una in Himachal.
