Washington: A bipartisan group of US lawmakers is set to visit India and attained Red Fort on August 15 ceremony. This information was given in an official statement. Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna and MP Michael Waltz will lead this bipartisan delegation of lawmakers.
The MPs will also visit the Red Fort where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation on the occasion of India’s Independence Day on 15 August. A media release said the US Congressman will meet business, technology, government, and Hindi film industry leaders in Mumbai, Hyderabad, and New Delhi. He will also visit Raj Ghat, a historic site dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi in New Delhi. Khanna and Waltz will be joined by MPs Deborah Ross, Kat Cammack, Rich McCormick, and Ed Case along with Sho and Jasmine Crockett. This is going to be an absolutely historic journey for MP Khanna.
Khanna’s paternal grandfather, Amarnath Vidyaalankar, was a freedom fighter who spent four years in jail with Mahatma Gandhi and later became a part of India’s first parliament, said the statement released on Monday. Khanna said, “As co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans, we are proud to lead a bipartisan delegation to India. We will discuss there how to strengthen economic and defense ties between the two countries, the oldest and largest democracies. At the same time, a group of American lawmakers led by Indian-American Congressman Mr. Thanedar introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives to declare India’s Independence Day as the national celebration day of the world’s two largest democracies.
The resolution expresses confidence that a strong partnership between the United States and India, rooted in shared democratic values, will continue to advance global democracy and promote peace, stability, and prosperity for all countries.
