Ujjain: The spiritual city of Lord Mahakal, is gearing up for the Simhastha 2028, held once every 12 years. The Madhya Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, has rolled out massive infrastructure development plans worth billions to enhance facilities for saints, devotees, and visitors. In a significant cabinet meeting on Wednesday, numerous transformative projects, including a four-lane highway, were approved to improve connectivity and cater to the grandeur of the event.
Major Connectivity Boost: Four-Lane Highways and Bypasses
The government has sanctioned ₹2,312 crore for road development projects, including converting the existing two-lane Simhastha bypass into a four-lane road at a cost of ₹701 crore. This 20-kilometer stretch will ease traffic congestion and ensure smooth movement for heavy vehicles and devotees during the Mahakumbh.
Additionally, a new four-lane highway connecting Ujjain and Indore is set to transform the region’s transportation landscape. This highway will directly link to the Pithampur industrial area, providing a seamless route for heavy vehicles while reducing pressure on Ujjain’s internal roads. The route will connect through rural areas, enhancing access to remote villages.
Strategic Route Details
The new four-lane highway will commence near the Chintamani Temple at Jawasia, passing through Ingoria and Depalpur, and ultimately linking to Pithampur in Indore. Meanwhile, the Simhastha bypass will begin near Shanti Palace in Ujjain and span 20 kilometers. This continuous four-lane network from the Mahakal temple approach road to Pithampur is expected to bring significant convenience to devotees and visitors during the grand event.
Global Investment Opportunities for Ujjain
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav shared optimistic news about foreign investments during his recent international visit. Investors expressed keen interest in Ujjain, impressed by its spiritual and geographical appeal. The upcoming Global Investors Summit in Bhopal is expected to bring further attention to the city, drawing entrepreneurs keen to explore opportunities in industries and tourism.

The state government is sparing no effort in making Simhastha Mahakumbh 2028 a historic event. The infrastructure overhaul is complemented by large-scale development projects aimed at improving the city’s facilities for millions of devotees.
