Chandigarh: Four people, including three laborers, were killed in a two-story commercial building collapsed on Thursday in the Dera Bassi area of Mohali, Punjab. This information was provided by officers. Officials said four people died in the incident. Earlier, the bodies of three workers were taken out of the rubble while the owner of the building Hardev Singh (72) was taken to the hospital. He suffered a head injury. The owner of the building died in a hospital in Chandigarh.
Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan said that the other deceased have been identified as Gopi (60), Raju (46) and Ramesh (45). The rescue operation lasted four hours and a team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was pressed into service to locate the people trapped under the rubble.
Officials said the two-storey building located in Meera Malli locality collapsed at around 9.30 am. A magistrate inquiry into the incident has been ordered and Kuldeep Bawa, SDM of Dera Bassi, has been asked to submit a report within 10 days.
