Micro-blogging website Twitter has announced to hide ‘copypasta’ tweets from its platform. Copy pasta tweets are those which are copied and paste from source without any change. Twitter Comms said in its tweet that ‘copy pasta’ has seen an increase, where copy, paste and content are being tweeted in multiple accounts. It was further stated that if such activity is found on the platform, then the visibility of those tweets will be reduced.
Twitter has recently updated its censorship policy, adding ‘copypasta’ tweets. Copypasta is a type of online slang used for duplicate text.
With this, Twitter has also introduced a feature in the mobile app, from where users can stop the option of copying their tweets. At the same time, the company has also recently released the ‘Retweet with quote’ feature.
Copypasta tweets are most commonly used for spamming and any campaign. Often you will have seen that thousands of accounts are tweeted the same way. This is all for trending and targeting a particular person or organization.

Twitter has taken action before on copypasta tweets, but this is the first time that a policy has been issued regarding this. Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey recently said in an interview to Wired that Twitter can also track how many times a link in a tweet has been copied.
