New York: Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has been declared Time’s ‘Person of the Year’ for 2022 on Wednesday. The Today Show said, “Many in Ukraine and abroad call Zelensky a hero. He has established himself as a symbol of democracy and firmness during Russia’s unprovoked attack on the country.

“Volodymyr Zelensky and the spirit of Ukraine are Time’s Person of the Year for 2022,” tweeted the Today Show. “A far more experienced leader than Zelensky was just six months ago,” Time magazine said, Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani. After the arrival of the Taliban army, they fled the capital.

In 2014, one of Zelensky’s predecessors, Viktor Yanukovych, fled Kyiv after protesters approached his home.” Time said Zelensky’s generation is now facing the aftershocks of a foreign invader.

The Time Person of the Year category has historically been associated with people who have been most influential during the year, ranging from previous title holders like Greta Thunberg and Pope Francis to Vladimir Putin and Adolf Hitler.

Last year, the magazine named Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk—who has since purchased Twitter—for the title, a year following Joe Biden and Kamala Harris being co-named. During Russia’s nearly 10-month invasion of Ukraine, Zelensky has been vocal against Russia’s efforts while presenting himself in person during Kherson’s most recent liberation. Prior to his time as Ukraine’s president, Zelensky worked as a stage actor and improv comedian while also spending time as a movie producer.
