New Delhi: In a significant development, the Supreme Court of New Delhi has taken a stern stance on the alleged irregularities surrounding the NEET-UG 2024 examination. The apex court, presided over by Justice Nath and Justice Bhatti, heard petitions concerning the contentious issue of grace marks awarded in the wake of the NEET scam. The bench expressed its intolerance for even the slightest negligence, emphasizing that any lapses must be addressed with utmost severity.

Petitioners Amulya Vijay Pinapati and Nitin Vijay have brought forth allegations regarding a paper leak, urging for an exhaustive inquiry into the matter. They have also called for the involvement of an alternative agency if necessary. The Supreme Court has scheduled the next hearing for July 8, maintaining its firm resolve that even “0.001% negligence” is unacceptable and warrants full redressal.

The bench highlighted the gravity of the situation by underscoring the diligence students exhibit in preparing for such critical exams. They pointed out the potential peril to society if someone were to exploit the system to become a doctor.

In earlier proceedings on June 11, the Supreme Court had served a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA) but declined to halt the ongoing counseling process. A subsequent hearing on June 13 saw the Center propose the annulment of grace marks awarded to 1563 candidates, with plans to reissue scorecards devoid of such marks. This follows the NEET results announced by NTA on June 4, which marked a first in history with 67 candidates achieving perfect scores.
