This move comes in the wake of vacancies created by the retirement of former Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Justices Abhay S Oka and Hrishikesh Roy. The Collegium has recommended Chief Justice N V Anjaria of the Karnataka High Court, Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi of the Guwahati High Court, and Justice A S Chandurkar of the Bombay High Court for appointment to the apex court.

Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced on Thursday that the President of India, exercising powers under the Constitution and after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, has approved the appointments of these three eminent jurists. This decision is expected to bolster the judicial strength and efficiency of the Supreme Court.

Chief Justice N V Anjaria is known for his judicious approach and has served with distinction in the Karnataka High Court. Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi has been recognized for his contributions to the Guwahati High Court, while Justice A S Chandurkar has earned respect for his tenure at the Bombay High Court. Their appointments mark a significant step in maintaining the high standards of the judiciary.

The Supreme Court Collegium’s recommendation and the subsequent approval by the government underscore the importance of timely appointments to ensure the smooth functioning of the judiciary. These appointments come at a crucial time when the Supreme Court is handling a growing number of complex cases.

The legal fraternity and the public alike await the formal swearing-in ceremonies, which will officially induct these judges into the Supreme Court, further strengthening the institution that stands as the guardian of the Constitution and the rule of law in India.
