Mumbai: Gujarat Titans have appointed Shubman Gill as the new captain of the team for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The young opener will lead the team for the first time, replacing Hardik Pandya, who has returned to his old team Mumbai Indians.
Gujarat Titans announced the decision on their social media accounts, saying that Shubman Gill is ready to lead the team in the new season. They wished him all the best for this and wrote “auspicious beginning”. Shubman Gill is 24 years old and has recently participated in the World Cup 2023, where he performed well for India.
Gujarat Titans have been part of the IPL since 2022 when they joined as a new franchise. They won the title in their debut season under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, who was bought for Rs 15 crore. They reached the final again in 2023 but lost to Chennai Super Kings. They have retained and released players for the new season of the IPL, which will have 10 teams. The auction is scheduled to be held on December 19, 2023.
