DENVER: Nine people were injured in a shooting outside the Ball Arena in the US city of Denver on Tuesday. Out of which the condition of three is said to be serious. Police have taken a suspect into custody in this case.

The shooting occurred about a mile (1.6 kilometers) from the ball arena, according to police. On Monday, the Denver Nuggets defeated the Miami Heat. Basketball fans then took to the streets of the city to celebrate the Nuggets’ first NBA (National Basketball Association) title win. Meanwhile, there was a sudden firing at 12:30 pm.

The Denver Police Department said on Twitter that three victims were in critical condition and others had life-threatening injuries. It appears that several shots were fired during a dispute involving several people in the 2000 block of Market Street. The suspect was also shot in this shootout. Police are investigating further.

The incident is one of 290 mass shootings recorded in the US so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive (a nongovernmental group). The US has the highest rate of gun deaths of any developed country. There were 49,000 deaths in 2021 and 45,000 in 2022.
